Biography:
Alexander Bagaturyants is chief researcher at Photochemistry Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was graduated from D.I. Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Technology, Moscow, Russia in 1962, obtained his PhD degree, Dr. Sci. degree, and the academic title of professor in 1968, 1987, and 1992, respectively, all in physical chemistry. His main research interests are in the field of atomistic multiscale simulations of organic functional materials, quantum chemistry, quantum-chemical calculations of excited states in molecules and molecular complexes. Alexander Bagaturyants is the author of more than 200 research papers and two monographs.

Abstract:
The current interest of our research group is largely focused on the development and understanding of precipitated crystalline organometallic compounds. We are placing a strong emphasis in the study of the synthetic procedures, the morphology, and on the structural determination of such compounds. Special importance is engaged in the preparation coordination polymers crystallized from solutions of supercritical CO2, (scCO2), where the use of a co-solvent is occasionally employed depending on reagents solubility [1-3]. The correct selection of experimental conditions in the scCO2 reactive crystallization technique, allows a precipitation known from other methodologies, as well as new crystalline phases. This procedure leads to the crystallization of stable hierarchical nanoestructures involving micro and mesoporosity. As the preparation of the crystalline materials is carried out in scCO2, these obtained with microporous structures were recovered activated, i.e., with open volume, since the removal of any guest molecules from the framework is carried out by simple depressurization. This method is expected to have many potential applications in the development of green crystallization techniques for coordination polymers synthesis.

Biography:
Dr. Xiaoping Huang is an associate professor in School of Physical Electronics, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. In 2008, he graduated from the National Laboratory of Solid Microstructures Physics, Department of Physics, Nanjing University. He works in Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf as a visiting scientist since 2017. He mainly engages in the fabrication of nanoscale nanostructures of metal and organic functions in the field of nano-optical device physics and the study of the optical and electromagnetics properties. He also handled 3 nationally funded projects including NSFC. He has published more than 30 international research papers.

Post-Doctoral Position in Organic Chemistry

Abstract:
Inadequate representation of the human tissue environment during a preclinical screen can result in inaccurate predictions of compound effects. Consequently, pharmaceutical investigators are searching for preclinical models that closely resemble original tissue for predicting clinical outcomes. The current research aims to compare the impact of using serum-free medium instead of complete culture medium during the last step of psoriatic skin substitute reconstruction. Skin substitutes were produced according to the self-assembly approach. Serum-free conditions have no negative impact on the reconstruction of healthy or psoriatic skin substitutes presented in this study regarding their macroscopic or histological appearances. ATR-FTIR results showed no significant differences in the CH2 bands between psoriatic substitutes cultured with or without serum, thus suggesting that serum deprivation did not have a negative impact on the lipid organization of their stratum corneum. Serum deprivation could even lead to a better organization of healthy skin substitute lipids. Percutaneous analyses demonstrated that psoriatic substitutes cultured in serum-free conditions showed a higher permeability to hydrocortisone compared to controls, while no significant differences in benzoic acid and caffeine penetration profiles were observed. Results obtained with this 3D-psoriatic skin substitute demonstrate the potential and versatility of the model. It could offer good prediction of drug related toxicities at preclinical stages performed in order to avoid unexpected and costly findings in the clinic. Together, these findings offer a new approach for one of the most important challenges of the 21st century, namely, prediction of drug toxicity.
